Oklahoma Live! Televised Interview

Greetings, Fellow Readers and Wordsmiths:


Today I had the pleasure of being interviewed on a local television show, Oklahoma Live!, hosted by Owen Pickard and Mrs. Oklahoma, regarding my various publications (including Empyreal Fate). It was a great experience, and I had a marvelous time sitting on-stage as the show was filmed and answering questions when my turn came around. Unfortunately, I didn't know any of the questions beforehand, so my answers were quite impromptu and not as thorough as I normally would have made them. Also, I was cut off at one point while talking about Rhothdyn, the king of man, but I believe it was simply due to time constraints. All the same, I was delighted and honored to be featured, and I would like to share with you all the link to the interview. Don't laugh at my attempt at a bun, by the way. My hair is nearly to my thighs, and it is my first time using 'hair chopsticks'. Anyway... Enjoy!

Empyreal Fate Earns Recognition - Award. Also: Zoo and Signing!

Greetings, Friends and Fellow Wordsmiths:


Well, today has been a swell Saturday indeed - thus far, of course. Tis merely noontime. But much in the way of excitement and adventure has taken place already: including a morning at the OKC Zoo (I know, I know... nostalgia gets me on that one) - as well as the winning of an award for Empyreal Fate as being "Indie Book of the Day" for this day, July 14th, 2012. I can say that I am quite honored to have received such recognition and title for my novel. I've thus posted the resulting certificate and badge that I received below. Also, I daresay, the Zoo was quite fun. It's been years since last I attended, and it was nice to see the new exhibits and updated features. There is yet much work that needs to be done to the place, but overall, the animals look happy, and, most importantly, healthy. Well -- all except this poor fella. I'm sorry to say that he didn't make it out alive:

But no matter! His counterparts were quite the bunch. ;)

Anyway, I'll keep this short for now. Stay tuned for upcoming interviews and posts for featured authors. I've got a couple interesting figures up my sleeve! (Well, in the queue, at any rate. I should think my sleeve is most uncomfortable).

Oh, that reminds me: In one week from now (Saturday - July 21st), I will be attending Full Circle Book's 'New Ink' event for an Author Book Signing. Two of my fellow compatriots from Hydra Publications will be attending from out-of-state, including James Peercy and Desiree Finkbeiner! Stop by and say 'hello' if you happen to be in the area. Empyreal Fate's First Fan-Fiction (Try saying that five times fast)

Good Evening, World!

Today, I received an email from fellow wordsmith, Horton Deakins (author of science fiction novel Time Pullers). When I opened said email, I was not expecting to find the piece of Fan Fiction within that I did. But - alas! he had attached the very thing: For while reading my fantasy novel, Empyreal Fate, Mr. Deakins became inspired to write a rather humorous account of Rhothdyn's demise. (For those of you who don't yet know, King Rhothdyn is the corrupt ruler of man in Llathala's realm. He is the royalblood of the kingdom of Erandor, and he rules with an iron fist. Nasty figure, he.) Therefore, when I read the Fan-piece on the king's death, I could not help but laugh aloud - and chuckle to myself.

Don't worry - this is not a spoiler for the story and is in no way a part of it at all. Rather, it is the kind and humorous writing from a fellow reader and writer who thought Rhothdyn deserved a sorry end. Enjoy~

Rhothdyn's Demise (A Fan-Fic)

As Rhothdyn retreated angrily into the castle keep, he sensed a presence in the shadows and halted abruptly.

“Who is there? Show yourself at once or submit to my ultimate wrath!”

But the darkness remained mute.

Rhothdyn drew his dagger.  “Come, now, and kneel before your king and beg his forgiveness for your impudence.  Fail me in this, and you will taste my steel.”

“Right behind you, Kingy-baby.”

“Who dares address his king —” but Rhothdyn’s words were cut short. As Rhothdyn spun around to meet his confronter, Horton, known as the farmer who does not speak, moved inside the king's grasp, making it impossible for the insulting tyrant to stab him.  With one harmonious, swift action, he grabbed the king's greasy locks, pulling his head back and exposing his throat.  Simultaneously, Horton brought his right hand high up behind his ear, and, with lightning speed, he struck Rhothdyn’s larynx with a deftly-placed, one-knuckle punch, crushing it.

Rhothdyn fell to his knees and released his hold on the dagger.  He seized his throat with both hands, his eyes pleading with his assailant for mercy as he gurgled, drowning in his own blood.  But mercy was taking the day off.

“That was a little something the elves taught me.  They said it comes from some island called ‘Okinawa.’”

Rhothdyn fell to the ground in a mass of royal robes.  The farmer who does not speak grasped the deceased monarch by his collar and dragged him to the courtyard where the assembly still lingered.

“Hey, dudes, ding dong!  The king is dead.  Like, no more starvation, and that stuff.  I mean, you know, you can go out and celebrate now, ‘cause he can’t, like, threaten you or anything like that, right?  Come on now, have a drink, cheer, or something.  You get to elect a king now.  How cool is that?  Huh?  Dudes, come on, who’s with me?  I’m going down to the tavern and toss back a few.  The first round’s on me.”

Jen rolled her eyes and whispered to her husband, “Now we know wherefore he hath not afore spoken.”

Thank you, Mr. Deakins, for that enjoyable piece. I can say I enjoyed a fair chuckle with that one!

New Release: Empyreal Fate (Ebook Version)

Good Morning:

It's official: Empyreal Fate is now released for Kindle! (The print version will be available in 2-4 weeks). I still cannot believe the time has finally come. As I mentioned elsewhere previously, it feels as though I'm floating in a fog... though the colors are beautiful. What a perfectly marvelous way to greet the morn! Character Interview and Guest Post

G'Evening, Universe:

Well, my friends - this is it. Almost. Either tonight or early tomorrow, my fantasy novel - Empyreal Fate - will be released as an ebook (followed by print next month) through Hydra Publications. I cannot believe the time is nearly upon us; it is breathtakingly surreal. Though - I shan't quite believe it until I'm holding the print version in my grasp, you know? It will be a feeling unlike any other, I'd imagine. And I cannot wait to be a part of that glorious sensation! Anyway, I'll post a blog specifically with links to the novel when it is officially released. For now, I have a couple of interviews that I have had the honor to be a part of today, and I would like to share them with you now:


First of all, R.S. Hunter featured my guest post on his blog, which I titled, "Symbolism, Fate, Fantasy, (And Yes, Star Wars, Too)". I find the psyche to be one of the most fascinating forces in the universe, and I think incorporated symbols represent a window into the conscience of the reader and the writer - whether the symbols are intentional or not. Perhaps the meaning is slight or abstract; perhaps the meaning is the opposite of what was intended: it doesn't matter. Rather, it is how the author portrays a symbol  - and more importantly - how the reader interprets it. Meanings will differ from person to person. That is individuality; that is beauty.

 

 Yeah, yeah, yeah... This is probably what most of you are thinking. ;)

Second on the list for today is my character interview, which was hosted by Dianne Gardner: Introducing Amarya. It is the first sneak peek into the eyes of one of Empyreal Fate's main characters: the elven royalblood of Androth, Amarya. She speaks about the tension between man and elf, delving into the concerns of the land (Llathala) and her strange connection with the mortal, Darrion. But I won't spoil the rest for you.
